The defense attorney for the director of the Durrës Penitentiary Institution, Indrit Cërloj, who was placed under the security measure "Arrest with imprisonment" by the court today, stated that the decision will be appealed, as responsibility is individual.
In a statement to the media, the lawyer stated that the only charge Cërloj faces is that he failed to verify whether fugitive Altin Ndoci had been visited or not by the IEVP doctor, which according to him was understandable since it was the doctor who signed the recommendation for Ndoci to be visited at the Durrës hospital.
"Today we were in a session to question the arrested person. Previously, the measure of arrest in prison in absentia was ordered, the court decided to continue the measure. We agree that it was a serious event, but the responsibility is personal and we believe that we are dealing with a misinterpretation of the law. The entire accusation of the director of the Penitentiary Institution is that he signed a letter that a prisoner should go for a visit to the hospital and is being asked why he did not verify whether or not he was visited by the Penitentiary Institution doctor. Meanwhile, the moment the doctor signs the card with the recommendation for the visit, it is taken for granted that he was visited. The decision will be appealed," said the lawyer.
