The Greek police have seized 272 kg of cocaine in an operation developed in 3 phases that started with the seizure on May 9 in Thessaloniki of 105 kg of cocaine coming from Ecuador.
During these operations, the Albanians Edmond Gjini and the brothers Remsi and Dritan Uka, 8 Greek citizens and 4 citizens of North Macedonia were arrested, while the cocaine was going to Skopje.
During the first operation, among those arrested was a Greek doctor, 68 years old. On May 31, he turns out to have repented and to have confessed with an additional statement, new details regarding the criminal group that hides behind drug trafficking from Ecuador.
" On 25.04.2023, my co-accused EG, (Edmond Gjini), after informing me about this, introduced me to an Albanian named J. He informed me that he had under his management several cargoes of bananas and in one of them , his associates, had placed a quantity of cocaine.
He asked me if I could find a space to carry out the work to remove the quantities of cocaine. The discussion took place in the presence of EG, who assured me that we can undertake the relevant work. The reward would be 50,000 euros. The entire process of loading from Ecuador and transport from the port of Thessaloniki to North Macedonia, the companies involved and the method of implementing the shipment of the container, was carried out by the Albanian J., without having any knowledge and contact with the senders or receivers. The warehouse I thought of using belonged to the firm of A. G, who was immobilized in his home due to orthopedic problems, and the warehouse was empty. The key was in the hands of his associate XD, who was in charge of maintaining the warehouse. I asked him to make it available and help EG,
The cargo arrived at noon on May 8 at the warehouse and the hidden drug was taken out of the container. "I had told him that as soon as he had finished removing the quantities of cocaine, he should put them in bags and hand them over to the MP, with whom I had agreed to hand them over to a person who would wait for him outside the "Filippeo" hotel. From what I learned later, the prosecuting authorities arrested him in Diavata. The same thing happened at the same time in the warehouse, in "Agios Athanasios", while my son was also arrested, in "Ano Evosmos", he says and shows that neither his son, nor the company that rents out a part of of his wife's estate, nor his daughter-in-law and her brother have anything to do with the whole matter. “My initial statement was the result of the confusion and fear that prevailed in my mind. When I calmed down a bit, I realized that I must tell the truth about the great stupidity and frivolity I had done and ask for the mercy of Justice. I have never taken drugs before. I did a single act of stupidity and frivolity and dragged some common people into it. I am shocked by my unacceptable and self-destructive action. God help me. I hope for the mercy of Justice"- concludes the 68-year-old retired doctor.
