He corrupted the Greek system, how the murderer from Tepelena was delaying his

For 13 months, Aliaj had been in a Greek prison, awaiting extradition to Albania. In the final months before the murder, he was trying to avoid returning to Albania at all costs.

According to information, the 49-year-old had entered into a mechanism to secure a document that would pave the way for political asylum, a move that would suspend or at least delay extradition.

It is said that amounts ranging from 50 to 100 thousand euros are circulating for such a procedure, but there is no confirmation whether he actually managed to secure this protection or if everything remained tentative.

"Jani Aliaj attempted to avoid extradition, where he entered into a mechanism to secure a political asylum letter. At least this much we are certain of from the information that TCH has,"  said journalist Artur Bibe.

"He did his best to prevent the extradition. With procedural actions, with court proceedings, with possible postponements and all that, but the fact is that they were nearing the end of this judicial path and it was thought and believed that in a short time this citizen would be extradited to the Republic of Albania... if the extradition procedure were to be completed, I think he would be safer serving his sentence in Albania than in Greece,"  said the lawyer, Indrit Sefa.

In the extradition hearings, his lawyers argued that returning to Albania would expose him to a serious risk to his life, due to open vendettas. They claimed that past conflicts had not been resolved and that his safety could not be guaranteed.

Ironically, it seems that the danger that was mentioned in the courtroom that could threaten him in Albania, materialized inside the Greek prison.

"Greece is considered one of the countries with the highest number of violent deaths in its prisons. There are many factors in this regard, even from the studies themselves, it is shown that one of the causes is the lack of conditions in prisons, they are poor conditions. The second factor is the lack of staff, the third factor is the corruption that may exist",  said lawyer Gjergj Nikolla.

In the history of clashes related to Tepelena's criminal groups, history has often shown that borders are symbolic.

The main line of investigation of the Greek Prosecutor's Office for the elimination of Jani Aliaj remains the feuds with rival groups in Tepelena. To understand the war between these gangs, we will now fully dissect the criminal life of Aliaj and his rivals.

This event is considered the final chapter of a war that began years ago, a war that was not stopped by punishments, bars, or security protocols. A war that ended with the murder of the two main protagonists, Elton Çiço earlier, and Aliaj more recently.

" In my view, revenge is not a priority or the primary cause of these criminal events, but rather the need for each criminal group to dominate another group. And until that other group is finally eliminated, they will not find peace, which means that criminal events will always continue ," said lawyer Indrit Sefa.

"These two events were unannounced, I don't think there was any turning back, and I don't think it had any major impact on the groups' decision-making, it's just that the conflict between the two was known, and both sought each other's elimination ," said journalist Xhevahir Zhabina./ InsideStory
