
A 47-year-old Albanian, wanted by Greek authorities for 13 years, was arrested at the "Rimini Fellini" airport in Italy immediately after arriving from Tirana.
Police detained him on the afternoon of February 17, as soon as he got off the plane and went through document control. He was traveling with a regular passport and did not resist arrest.
Greek authorities had issued a European arrest warrant against him for murder and attempted murder, committed in 2012 in the Agios Panteleimon area, in eastern Greece, near Athens. According to the investigative file, he is accused of killing a fellow countryman and seriously wounding another with a firearm, then fleeing between Greece and Albania.
The Rimini border police organized the operation in collaboration with the "Sirene" department, the State Police and the Greek authorities. The officers awaited the landing of the flight from Tirana and intervened immediately after verifying the identity.
After initial procedures at the Border Police premises, the 47-year-old was transferred to the Rimini prison. He will appear before the Court of Appeal in Bologna, which examines extradition cases.
Now the Greek authorities must officially submit the extradition request. The court will assess whether the legal conditions for extradition to Greece are met.
