The Court of Appeals has reduced the 2-year prison sentence of former head of the Cadastre, Florian Taçi.
The appeal found Florian Taçi, the former director of the Gjirokastra Cadastre, guilty, but by making a change from the first instance, it reduced his sentence by two years. Of the 6 years in prison that was given by the Gjirokastra Court, the former official was sentenced to 4 years for two criminal offenses, that of fraud and forgery.
The presiding judge of the court session, Valdete Hoxha, has decided to uphold the decision to sentence socialist official Florian Taçi, changing only the sentence previously given by the Court of Fact in Gjirokastra, which had awarded him 6 years in prison and with a shortened trial, after Taçi admitted that he had committed criminal offenses and caused harm to citizens and the state. The appeal has given 4 years in prison.
Taç had requested a shortened trial and will serve a sentence of 2.8 years in prison. From this, the time served in home detention granted by the Gjirokastra Court of First Instance is deducted, leaving him with more than 1.5 years to serve in a regular security prison.
An execution order from the prosecutor in the case is expected any moment for Florian Taçi to serve the remaining sentence.
Meanwhile, the sentence for his close associate in illegal affairs, Alban Memisha, was upheld with 4 years in prison, but he will serve 2.5 years in prison due to the summary trial, while Julian Nakuçi, for whom the First Instance Court in Gjirokastra had issued a decision to be required to appear for 8 months, was acquitted.
Florian Taçi, the former head of the Cadastre in Gjirokastra, and Alban Memisha, an employee of this institution, were arrested in flagrante delicto in a flash action on February 28, 2024 after they were found compiling forged land deeds in the office of the former socialist official, near the Gjirokastra District Police.
Taçi had full access to the central server of the Albanian Cadastre, from where he penetrated with proof of ownership, granting properties with digital seals to other people.
