A 31-year-old man has been arrested by Tirana police after being accused of transporting several foreign citizens to cross the border illegally.
31-year-old Kreshnik Gaxha was caught transporting 6 immigrants from Egypt to Kukës.
"After 1 month of investigation using special methods, the operation codenamed "Relay 3" is being finalized to crack down on the criminal activity of providing assistance to foreign citizens for illegal border crossings.
The 31-year-old was arrested for transporting 6 immigrants from Egypt to Kukës, via the old Rinas road, who were intending to illegally cross into EU countries.
The vehicle in which the immigrants were transported, and 2 cell phones, were seized.
Specialists of the Section for the Investigation of Illicit Trafficking, as a result of a month-long investigation, pursued with special methods, in coordination with the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, to document the criminal activity of a citizen suspected of transporting immigrants, in return for payments, from Tirana to Kukës, with the aim of illegal passage, initially to Kosovo and then to EU countries, finalized the third phase of the "Relay" operation.
During the operation, the suspected perpetrator of this criminal activity, citizen KG, 31 years old, resident of Kukës, was arrested.
In the vehicle driven by this citizen, on the old Rinas road, there were 6 immigrants from Egypt.
"In cooperation with the Prosecution, investigations are ongoing to identify and bring to criminal responsibility other citizens who may have been involved in this case. The procedural materials were referred to the Tirana Prosecution for further action ," the police announced.
