A gang of Albanians, who used masks and wigs, are accused of a series of armed robberies carried out at luxury villas in the province of Malaga.
The operation, called "Despropósito", resulted in the arrest of 5 people and the investigation of 11 others, mainly of Albanian nationality.
The thieves followed their victims, who were selected from high-income individuals, to find their homes and then robbed them. During the robberies, they used all kinds of latex masks and wigs to hide their identities. Investigators discovered these patterns after receiving reports from some of the people they robbed.
The investigation uncovered several properties in Marbella and Mijas linked to the organization. Searches of these properties resulted in the seizure of firearms, ammunition, stolen luxury vehicles and altered license plates, among other things related to criminal activity.
In addition, officers arrested five members of the gang for burglary and seized luxury watches from well-known brands, 39,465 euros in cash and other items worth over 80,000 euros. All stolen goods were returned to their rightful owners, according to the Civil Guard.
The operation has also led to the investigation of 11 other members of the organisation for residential burglaries. Coordination between units at Mijas Main Station was key to the success of the operation and to ensuring the arrest of the gang leaders.
