The Chief Prosecutor of Cuneo, Onelio Dodero, announces that a turning point has been reached in the investigation of the murder of Claudio Myrtaj, 34, the Albanian mason who was fatally wounded on Saturday afternoon by a gunshot to the head and lost life shortly after arriving at the hospital in Cuneo.
What at first appeared to be an on-the-job accident was actually a crime that dozens of police officers from the province's investigative and operational units have been working on for nearly a week, coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Attilio Offman. The autopsy revealed that the bullet belonged to a .22 caliber pistol.
After analyzing the angle of entry into Myrtaj's right temple, it means that the bullet was fired from the right side. Having arrived in Italy less than two years ago, employed in his Albanian cousin's construction company "Caraglio Costruzioni", the mason was helping a retired friend in the carpentry workshop in Umberto.
That Saturday, the man declares that around 4:30 p.m. he went to get gas for the tractor. Upon returning, a horrified customer found Myrtaj in agony and raised the alarm. Investigators obtained footage from video surveillance cameras in the area and interviewed several witnesses. No one claims to have seen anyone enter or leave the yard, or heard the sound of a gunshot.
If it is a premeditated act, the killer chose a small caliber and waited until the 34-year-old was left alone, to strike in cold blood and escape. From the findings, the Prosecution concludes that the author is not a professional anyway.
"We investigate Myrtaj's past and present, we hear from family, friends, partner, people he frequented, habits. And there is nothing "dark" about a worker without a criminal record, who despite all the strong jealousy and some fights in the bar, lives an open life, does not hide and has never caused a problem to the community. Any possible details are appreciated. From the motive of passion to settling accounts, to some secret never revealed about the girlfriend and the family. Until the sensational hypothesis of a terrible accident, a tragic fatality", say the investigators for Lastampa.

"Meanwhile, yesterday the Prosecutor's Office gave permission for the burial of Claudio Myrtaj and his family members, including an aunt from Florence, who paid their respects for the last time in the Santa Croce cemetery, waiting for the green light for the repatriation of the body and burial in Albania. "Whatever the truth is - that is, the cousins - we just want clarity and justice," the investigators said.
