The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, held an introductory meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Albania, Niklas Ström, where the focus of the discussions was the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries and support for the modernization of the Albanian police.
During the meeting, Hita stated that his objective is to build a better educated, better trained and more professional State Police, capable of facing current security challenges.
"My vision is for an increasingly well-educated, better trained and more professional State Police, to respond to the security challenges of the time," he declared.
The Head of the State Police appreciated Sweden's continued support through programs and projects being implemented in Albania. He highlighted the Community Policing Strengthening Program, which is expected to continue until 2029, as well as the Swedish contribution to the Scientific Police, the Traffic Police and the Security Academy.
According to Hita, cooperation between law enforcement institutions of Albania and Sweden has yielded concrete results in several key areas, including the fight against terrorism, community policing, protection of minors, the fight against gender-based violence, criminal investigation, and information exchange.
"The partnership without barriers and built on mutual trust has yielded high results in areas such as the fight against terrorism, community policing, juvenile justice, the fight against gender-based violence, criminal investigation and information exchange ," said Hita.
Meanwhile, Swedish Ambassador Niklas Ström praised the progress achieved so far and reaffirmed Sweden's commitment to continue supporting the State Police in the process of modernization and approximation to European standards.
The meeting also discussed projects currently underway, which aim to use modern technologies in the Traffic Police, increase capacities for investigating cases of sexual violence and gender-based violence, strengthen intelligence-led policing, and improve crime scene investigation.
