An Albanian man has been arrested by the Carabinieri in Italy after being caught red-handed for robbery as part of a gang of 'hawks'. The 26-year-old Albanian was also found with a loaded and ready-to-fire Glock pistol.
The arrested man has been identified as Kristian Caka, who has a criminal record. Authorities said the weapon was a semi-automatic, and the criminal activity was carried out mainly in the Rome area.
The suspect was traveling along Corso Casale in a Fiat Panda, along with another person inside. They were making suspicious movements, arousing suspicion among the carabinieri.
The officers then decided to intervene and stop the vehicle. The passengers, as soon as they realized that the carabinieri were trying to control them, abandoned the car and ran away.
After the chase, they caught one of the young men, who was the Albanian, and during the search they found a 45-caliber Glock gun inside his fanny pack, with a magazine inserted and 13 rounds inside. Also, two bracelets, three gold rings decorated with precious stones, and a silver ring, stolen from the apartments.
A subsequent search of the abandoned car in the middle of the road led officers to find four watches from well-known brands. Escorted to the police station, the young man was identified as Kristian Caka, 26, of no fixed address.
According to criminal records, a traveler's thief, he had come to Asti to commit several repeated robberies. The Albanian did not reveal the identity of his accomplice, who managed to escape. The young man was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and receiving stolen goods.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the weapon had been stolen from a house in Rimini last June, La Stampa reports.
"Investigations are underway," the carabinieri report, "to identify the owners of the jewelry and watches found, which were undoubtedly stolen in the capital or surrounding areas."
