
The Berat Court has ordered "prison arrest" for Zamir Skënder, the suspected perpetrator of the shooting of police officer Arsen Toska, an event that occurred on the evening of May 18.
The 45-year-old from Kuçova appeared at the court premises under strict security measures, while the hearing for determining the security measure was held behind closed doors.
The prosecutor in the case, Marilda Frashëri, after presenting the circumstances of the incident, requested the legal qualification of the arrest and the imposition of the measure of "prison arrest" against Skënder for the criminal offenses of "Intentional murder of State Police employees during or because of their duty" and "Production and sale of narcotics".
On the other hand, the defense attorney stated that the incident had occurred in a serious psychological state of the perpetrator, who according to him was under the influence of narcotics.
Skënder himself expressed remorse before the court, stating that he "does not remember what happened and how it happened."
In conclusion, Judge Elkida Olldashi decided to declare the arrest lawful and to leave in force the security measure "prison arrest" for the 45-year-old.
How did the incident happen?
The serious incident occurred on the evening of May 18th at the exit of the village of Kutalli in the Dimal municipality. Zamir Skënderi was wanted by Kuçova, but his arrest took place in Fier and he had to be transported.
While driving a police vehicle on the Fier-Kutalli axis, the 45-year-old man took the service weapon from the belt of the police officer who was accompanying him, Arsen Toska, 20 years old, in the back of the vehicle and shot him once, leaving him wounded in the thigh.
There was no fight between the policeman and the arrested person, as Skënder's action was immediate.
After the incident, he attempted to escape, but was neutralized and arrested by officers in the other police vehicle.
