The State Police has provided details of the operation codenamed "Ghost Call", conducted the day before in Tirana, as part of the crackdown on fraud through "Call Centers".
According to the official announcement, the action was finalized by the Cybercrime Investigation Directorate, in cooperation with Austrian authorities and with the support of Europol, under the direction of the Tirana Prosecutor's Office.
According to police, the operation is the result of an in-depth investigation that lasted about two years. The investigation began after a request for information from Austrian authorities, which led to the identification and documentation of suspected criminal activity.
By decision of the Tirana Court, the search of the premises where the suspected subjects were operating was allowed, as well as the search of the homes of nine citizens. During the intervention, the officers found various operators in conditions of illegal activity, enabling, according to the police, the immediate documentation of the criminal activity.
Following the procedural actions, at the request of the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, the security measures "arrest with imprisonment" were imposed on seven citizens. The measures were executed for ED, born on 24.10.1978; MH, born on 14.07.2002; TA, born on 19.06.2003; LT, born on 28.08.1993; and Xh.M., born on 05.12.1997. Meanwhile, Xh.H., born on 10.06.1995, and ML, born on 04.12.1997, were declared wanted.
The court also imposed the measures of "ban on leaving the country" and "obligation to report to the judicial police" for two citizens. According to the police, the measure was executed for citizen AV, born on 29.12.1993.
During the operation, five other people were arrested in flagrante delicto, who, according to the authorities, were caught engaging in illegal activity. These are citizens KB, born on 06.04.1988; EH, born on 17.11.2000; BB, born on 02.10.2001; KD, born on 15.12.2001; and ET, born on 04.08.1994. DJ, born on 02.08.2002, is also wanted.
From the investigative actions, according to the police, these citizens have been identified as persons with an important role in the structure of criminal activity, mainly in the function of team leaders.
The execution of the decisions was carried out by State Police officers, in cooperation with the Tirana Prosecutor's Office and in coordination with investigators from the Austrian authorities, as well as with Europol experts, who participated in the operation.
During the checks, 891,735 euros were seized, as well as a large number of electronic devices suspected of being used for criminal activity. Specifically, the police announced the seizure of 443 computers, 238 mobile phones, 6 laptops, as well as other devices such as HDDs and DVRs.
