Arten H, the son of Alfredo H, a suspected leader of an international drug trafficking network, told the Brussels Court of Appeal on Wednesday that he had no information on his father's activities and that he was convinced that he only dealt in real estate.
The 27-year-old, declared innocent in the first instance, has once again declared his innocence, denying any connection to drug trafficking.
As part of the investigation codenamed "Black Eagle", 34 individuals have been accused of belonging to a criminal organization that is active in the sale of cocaine on an international scale.
Arten H. was born in Tirana and has lived in the Antwerp region of Belgium for many years with his parents. At the time of the incident, he was working as a freelancer in a clothing store run by his aunt, while studying accounting at a university in Antwerp.
He told the court he had limited knowledge of his father's activities.
"My father was involved in real estate and had inherited a lot of money. I knew he had a criminal record, but I was told this was a case from before I was born," he added.
Regarding information on international arrest warrants issued for his father in 2020 and 2021, he said he was unaware of them, even though he lived with him and his mother in their family home in Deurne.
Alfredo H.'s son was also asked about the luxury watches he owned, such as those from Rolex and Richard Mille, which can cost up to 400 thousand euros. He stressed that he had had a special interest in mechanical watches since childhood. Regarding the shares he had in various companies, including Summer Dépôt, Bakkery Factory, Peer 2019 and 2A Construction, he stressed that he was not informed about this.
In the end, he continued to deny any connection to his father's criminal activities, stating that he had no knowledge of his alleged assets and activities.
