Who is Alket Rizai?
Alket Rizai was born on May 24, 1978 in Ballsh. At the age of 16, he left for Greece to work. He became known as the Albanian who escaped twice from Greek prisons by helicopter. He was the youngest of three sons and was an obedient child. He had a special passion, which he could probably turn into a profession if his future was different: electronics.
He was taking apart electronic devices and reassembling them since he was 10 years old. Alketi spent the first years of his childhood in the village of Kalenjë, with his uncles. The six-year-old has returned to his hometown to start first grade. He did not finish high school, he left for Greece. In addition to Albanian, Alketi speaks 5 foreign languages.
After escaping from prison in 2006, Alket Rizai and Nikos Palekostas were quickly caught, but Vassilis vowed to continue his crime spree. On June 9, 2008, he kidnapped George Mylonas, a billionaire aluminum magnate who had angered the country's poor by declaring that "workers need to tighten their belts." But Mylonas said of his captors: "They were kind and treated me well", while the amount demanded for his release was 12 million euros.
In fact, the Greek authorities managed to trace Paleokostas to the house where Mylonas was kept. There, on August 2, 2008, while the fugitive was drinking a glass of alcohol and getting ready to watch something on DVD, a special forces team burst in by breaking down the door.
Police found a copy of the Al Pacino film Heat, which tells the story of two bank robbery veterans who evade the police. He had been on the run for 791 days when he was caught and the cops were happy.
"The speedy capture of Vassilis Paleokostas, one of the country's most notorious criminals, is a much-needed boost to the morale and public image of the Greek police," said a cable from the US consulate in Thessaloniki to the Secretary of State in Washington, released later. from WikiLeaks.
It is not known how Paleokostas spent the money he received, but at his 2009 court hearing in Athens, where new charges of kidnapping and robbery were brought, a crowd gathered outside the court.
A group of young women invaded the courtroom, behaving like a fan club of a pop idol, as a tabloid newspaper would later write. At this time, Alket Rizai's glamorous girlfriend, Soula Mitropia, made a splash in the courtroom.
As Rizai returned to court to be sentenced to 25 years, she theatrically began to swear and threw her arms around him. When no one was looking, she slipped a mysterious watch into his pocket.
The second escape is by helicopter:
For the guards watching the security cameras, that morning was like any other morning. Paleokostas was working out and Rizai was picking the winners in a betting game. Rizai recalls: "I am a person who has intuition. I feel things, when something good will happen, I feel it".
At 15:00, Mitropia called them on the watch-cell phone that she had put in her pocket when they were in court. It was the moment. The emergency siren at Korydallos prison began to wail like a violin as guards ordered the inmates inside. It was 3:45 p.m., the day before Paleokosta's trial began.
Up in the sky, a watchman from the tower was hearing the sound of propellers. When the helicopter landed on the right side of the bridge, the guard grabbed the machine gun and sounded the alarm. It wasn't a drill, this time they had to shoot to kill. The helicopter had been hijacked by a company called Interjet, which offers helicopters for hire, and the escape proved successful.
