A serious event was recorded today in Tirana, after a 55-year-old American hanged himself in his rented apartment and died as a result.
The victim has been identified as Mathew James Werts, who worked as a teacher at "Albania Collage".
"On 19.08.2024, at the intersection of "Valbona" street with "Ramazan Ceku" street, the American citizen MW, 55 years old, hanged himself in the apartment (rented), and as a result he died.
The investigative group is working to clarify the circumstances of the incident," the police announced.
During the last few days there has been a very high number of suicides.
Two days ago, a 60-year-old woman was found drowned in the Artificial Lake of Tirana. While on Saturday morning, an elderly woman ended her life, jumping from the fifth floor of the apartment.
Three days ago, Polumbari of Renea found the dead body of a 21-year-old man, who allegedly drowned himself in a water channel in the village of Çukas in Lushnja.
While a 23-year-old woman, who allegedly suffered from mental health problems, threw herself from the fifth floor of her building, on "Asim Vokshi" street.
