The police have arrested a 19-year-old Pakistani, who was transporting 5 immigrants from third countries, who intended to illegally cross the border with Greece, towards Kakavija.
The driver of the vehicle did not obey the stop sign but continued driving at speed for several minutes and then abandoned the vehicle.
The vehicle in which the immigrants were transported was seized as material evidence.
"The Section for the Investigation of Illegal Traffic, in cooperation with the Road Police Sector, the Operational Sector and the Prosecutor's Office of Gjirokastra, is finalizing the coded operation "Turn 1", for cracking down on a case of providing assistance for illegal crossing of the border.
The 19-year-old, a Pakistani citizen, was transported by vehicle towards Kakavija, 5 immigrants from third countries, who intended to illegally cross the border with Greece.
During the operation, the Police services, on the road axis "Tepelenë-Memaliaj", signaled a stop to a vehicle with which it was suspected that immigrants were being transported. The driver of the vehicle did not obey the stop sign but continued driving at speed for several minutes and then abandoned the vehicle.
As a result of quick investigative actions, the driver of the vehicle, Pakistani national AA, 19 years old, resident in Pakistan, was identified and arrested.
The vehicle in which the immigrants were transported was seized as material evidence. The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Gjirokastër, for further actions, for the criminal offense "Aiding illegal border crossing", the police informs.
