
35 people, part of a drug trafficking network were arrested by the joint Europol and Eurojust operation in Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. Albanians are among those arrested.
It is suspected that the criminal network trafficked cocaine and cannabis from South America and then distributed it to European Union countries.
The criminal network had several logistic bases where the narcotics and the income from this activity were stored, as well as where the collaborators could meet. They also possessed an extensive fleet of vehicles, cell phones equipped with encrypted messaging apps.
This criminal group is also known for its use of violence, including episodes of torture and kidnapping.
According to the investigations, the criminal network has carried out at least 36 imports totaling 1 ton of cocaine and 1 ton of hashish in the period March 2020-June 2021. The market value of the drug distributed is suspected to have reached 1 billion euros. During the investigation, more than 1 million euros in cash were also seized.
The proceeds of crime were divided among the network members according to their respective roles.
In Germany, several suspects owned an upscale restaurant, a bar and a real estate agency that were allegedly used to launder money from drug-trafficking activities.
