A 53-year-old man was arrested by Elbasan police on the Belsh-Gjolene axis with 13 students in a van, while his alcohol test resulted above the permitted limits.
The police intervention was made after a citizen called the Cërrik operations room, which led to the immediate stop of the “Benz Sprinter” vehicle by the Belsh Police Post patrol. It was transporting students from the Sami Frashëri High School.
The driver of the vehicle, citizen Sazan Jashar Gjolena , underwent a two-part alcohol test, which resulted in "first test: 0.68 mg/l and second test: 0.67 mg/l". After verifications, he was taken to the Elbasan Local Police Directorate for further procedural actions.
Meanwhile, police ensured that the students were transported safely by another means of public transportation.
"Today, on 05.05.2026, based on the call made by a citizen to the Cërrik operational room, Belsh Post Office, that citizen Sazan Gjolena, with the “Benz Sprinter” type vehicle with license plates AA198FR, which transports passengers and students of the “Sami Frashëri” High School, is driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, we immediately assessed the citizen's call and took the appropriate measures, together with the Belsh Post Office patrol of the Cërrik Police Station, where it was possible to ascertain and stop the “Benz Sprinter” type vehicle with license plates AA198FR, driven by citizen Sazan Jashar Gjolena, born on 20.07.1972, resident of Gjolene, Belsh Municipality, with the direction of movement Belsh-Gjolene.
There were 13 passengers in the vehicle, all high school students. After verifying the documentation, we performed a two-part alcohol test: the first test resulted in a level of 0.68 mg/l and the second test resulted in a level of 0.67 mg/l.
We immediately escorted the driver of the vehicle, who was found to be intoxicated, to the Elbasan Local Police Directorate for further action.
"We took measures to make it possible to transport the children on another means of public passenger transport," the police announced.
