Nikoll Radaçi in the courtroom

The court has imposed the security measure "prison arrest" for 57-year-old Nikoll Radaçi, accused of being the author of the tragic accident in Durrës in which two children lost their lives.

The serious incident occurred on May 3 in neighborhood no. 15 of the city, where three children playing on the sidewalk were hit by a vehicle driven by Radaçi. As a result, Enea Muçaj, 12, and Klersi Nikolli, 10, lost their lives, while another 8-year-old child was seriously injured.

According to sources, the 57-year-old was questioned twice, initially in a serious psychological state and under the influence of alcohol. He is understood to have stated to investigators that he does not remember the incident, also admitting that he had been drunk at the time of the accident.

"Kill me. I don't deserve to live. I want to kill myself. What can I say!? Is there anything left to say!? I'm shocked. I don't remember anything. I grabbed the children. I was drunk,"  the 57-year-old is reported to have said, among other things.

Radaçi has been a problem for residents of the area in the past, having filed several complaints with the police for speeding and drunk driving. He has been fined several times by the authorities and has had his driving license revoked on two occasions for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The incident has caused strong reactions in public opinion and has revived discussions on road safety and law enforcement for repeat offenders.
