A 22-year-old Albanian man has been jailed after authorities discovered a cannabis cultivation facility in a flat in Nottingham. The incident took place on November 20 last year in Manesty Crescent, in the Clifton area, when officers executed a search warrant.
As soon as police arrived at the property, the young man, identified as Redis Shahini, ran away. He jumped over fences and climbed onto the roof in an attempt to escape arrest, but officers chased him down and stopped him in the back garden of a nearby apartment.
During a search of the building, police found 263 cannabis plants grown across three floors. Authorities estimated their value on the illegal market at up to £200,000.
Shahini, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty in court to a charge of manufacturing a Class B drug. He also admitted entering the UK in contravention of a deportation order, having left the country in 2024.
Nottingham Crown Court sentenced him to 22 months in prison. After serving his sentence, authorities will recommend his deportation from the United Kingdom.
