A 35-year-old woman has been arrested by police after being caught transporting illegal immigrants.
Police say the 35-year-old, identified as Elsona Çoba, was transporting immigrants who intended to illegally cross into EU countries.
According to the police, she took 2,500 euros from the immigrants, with the promise that she would transport them to Italy.
The 35-year-old was caught red-handed, near Lezha, while transporting 5 immigrants, whom she had picked up in Vora.
"Tirana/The seventh phase of the codenamed "Relay" operation is finalized. A 35-year-old woman who was transporting immigrants who intended to illegally cross into EU countries is arrested. The 35-year-old is suspected of having taken 2,500 euros from the immigrants, with the promise that she would transport them to Italy. The "BMW" vehicle in which the immigrants were transported is seized.
As a result of information received about a citizen who would transport several immigrants, illegally and for payment, to EU countries, specialists from the Trafficking Investigation Section, in cooperation with the Lezha Police Department, finalized the operation codenamed "Relay 7".
During the operation, citizen E. Ç., 35 years old, resident of Rrogozhina, was arrested. The 35-year-old was caught red-handed, near Lezha, while transporting 5 immigrants, whom she had picked up in Vora. Meanwhile, the investigation suspects that the 35-year-old took 2,500 euros from each of the immigrants, with the promise that she would enable their illegal transportation to Italy.
"In cooperation with the Prosecution, the investigation continues to identify and bring to criminal responsibility other citizens who may have been involved in this case. The procedural materials were referred to the Tirana Prosecution for further action," the police announced.
