Kamber Sulçaj, accused of the murder of Italian businessman Edoardo Sarchi in Tepelena on September 27, has been remanded in prison indefinitely.
The 48-year-old appeared before the First Instance Court in Gjirokastër two days after he surrendered to the Prosecutor's Office, after being declared wanted by the police in connection with this incident. Initially, it was the Prosecutor of the case, Blerina Musabelli, who presented the acts that the investigative group took at the scene and the circumstances leading up to Sulçaj's surrender.
Afterwards, his lawyer from Vlora, Arsenal Zotaj, presented, among other things, the fact of the client's surrender, considering it as a mitigating circumstance. The 48-year-old himself remained silent throughout the entire session of the assessment of the security measure. The lawyer stated that he will appeal the indefinite imprisonment measure that was given by judge Entela Selmanaj to the Tirana Court of Appeal.
The 48-year-old turned himself in to the Prosecutor's Office two days ago and it is not known whether he admitted to the murder. "My name is Kamber Sulçaj, I am wanted by the state," he told the Prosecutor's Office. He also handed over the weapon with which he is suspected of committing the crime, as well as the permit he had.
It is learned that he has refused to give statements to the police regarding the circumstances or motives of the crime.
