The testimony of the granddaughter of the 68-year-old who was killed along with his Albanian friend at the campsite in Finikounda is expected to shed new light on the mystery surrounding the double murder in Greece.
She confessed that a few years ago the victim had accused his nephew of theft. Later, she added, their relationship normalized.
"I am the victim's granddaughter. More specifically, I am his sister's daughter and I came here today to tell you what I know about my uncle and his life, because I want the people who did this harm to be caught as soon as possible. Since I was born, I spent all my summers in Finikounda, with my uncle. At the age of 18, I left here and went to Athens to work in a bank. I started a family and every summer I continued to visit Finikounda for holidays and stay at my uncle Kostas' house," the 68-year-old's granddaughter said in her testimony, according to information from protothema.gr.
She then described to the police how she had discussed with her uncle about renovating a house.
“(…) In the last year I have come much more often. At one point, I discussed with my uncle, with whom I had an excellent relationship, he loved me as his daughter and I as my father, my desire to renovate the house that TD, my uncle's nephew, had given me with a prior agreement at his instigation. Whatever my uncle said, it was done.
He was absolute and authoritarian. He kept the money and was in charge. So when I told him about the renovation I wanted to do last July, he said, “You’re driving me crazy, leave me alone,” and I replied that if he continued with this behavior, I would take my things and leave. I also told him to get my son out of the campsite, where he worked for my uncle Kosta every summer and gave him some money. As soon as I told him that, he hung up on me. That was the only time we really argued.”
Then, referring to her uncle, she described: “He started everything without money and today he has a fortune worth about 30 million euros. (…) He was very strange and since he always wanted to do his own thing, those who depended on him had to do him all the honors, because if they didn’t, he could leave them without food. (…) The only person who could stand by my uncle was his friend and assistant B., who also lost his life. (…) He had a terrible weakness for her. He died for her and lived for her, dressed her in expensive clothes, bought her Mercedes and from what my uncle had told me, the largest percentage of his will was going to B.
B. did not have a good relationship with TD, my uncle's nephew, without knowing the reason, and when I asked my uncle if it was about the inheritance, he told me no.
B. had a crazy weakness for my uncle, and so did my uncle for B.”
Regarding the victim's relationship with his nephew who was present at the crime, she said: "(…) Regarding my uncle's relationship with TD's nephew, about whom you are asking me, it has been very good recently. However, about four years ago, there was a theft of about 20,000 euros in the house that he had given me for the summer holidays in 2017, for a month and a half, to stay, and while I was away for 10 days in Athens, this theft occurred.
My uncle at the time constantly accused TD of having something to do with this theft and even told me that he would write that if anything happened to him, he would hold TD’s nephew responsible. He was very afraid of TD, because if anything happened to him, TD would take most of the property. However, despite all this, in the last two or three years the two had become close again.”
