The Elbasan Court has acquitted Donald Hoxha, accused of the murder of former police officer Roland Rexhepi, a crime that occurred in 2009.

The prosecution requested 16 years in prison for Hoxha, suspected of premeditated murder, in his role as an accessory to Rexhepi's murder.

34-year-old Donald Hoxha was arrested in London and extradited from the UK in April 2024.

He is accused of having killed former police officer Roland Rexhepi with a firearm on July 22, 2009 in the city of Elbasan, in collaboration with citizens Armand Llakaj and Marjus Tafaj.

The former officer, also known as "Doda", was executed with two Kalashnikov-type weapons on the morning of July 22 near his apartment as he was going to the parking lot where his car was.

Donald Hoxha was declared internationally wanted by Interpol Tirana, after the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Elbasan assigned him the security measure "Arrest in prison", for the criminal offenses of "Premeditated murder" and "Unauthorized possession and production of weapons, combat weapons and ammunition".

Donald Hoxha, accused of being one of the persons involved in the role of an accessory in the murder of former Anti-Drugs officer Roland Rexhepi, has been declared innocent by the Elbasan court. The decision was made this Tuesday, at a time when the prosecution had requested the defendant be sentenced to 16 years in prison, on the charge of premeditated murder of the former Anti-Drugs officer.

Florind Shabani, Armand Llakaj, and Marjus Tafaj were previously convicted for Doda's murder, while Gëzim Balla remains wanted.
