The Supreme Court has overturned the decision of the Special Appeal for Blendi Teta, sentenced to 25 years in prison for his involvement in the murder of former police officer Santiago Malko on August 27, 2019.

Teta was accused of aiding and abetting the murder, specifically for monitoring Malko's movements and assisting the perpetrators in the assassination. Leonard Duka, Erlis Duka, Ilir Selmani, Oltian Loga, Aleksandër Maxhaku, Fatmir Hyseni (Musai), Dritan Agaj, Xhoni Nica and Elvis Gaçaj are also accused of this serious event, described as a mafia execution.
"GJ.KKO 52104-00023-00-2023 BLENDI TETA Articles 78/2, 28/4, 333/a/2, 334 point 1 of the Criminal Code. "Reversal of decision no. 32, dated 14.6.2022, of the Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, and sending the case for reconsideration to this court, with another panel of judges ," the Supreme Court's announcement states.
Who was Santiago Malco?
Santiago Malko, a former police officer arrested and wanted for his involvement in the October 4 incident in the former block along with his friend Ervis Martinaj, where one person was killed and two others were injured.
Malko had completed the General Patrol course and was part of this structure in the Tirana Police for only 3 months, from which he voluntarily withdrew.
In 2016, Malko was also involved in a conflict with brothers Edmond and Gentian Lashi, 34 and 26 years old, where the conflict is suspected to have occurred due to an unpaid debt.
Both parties, the brothers and the former police officer, owned sports betting shops in the same area, but according to the Police, the conflict occurred at Edmond Lashi's shop. It is learned that the two brothers owed Santiago Malko an amount of 1 thousand euros.
How did the event of August 27, 2017 happen?
As reported at the time in the Police announcements, Malko was traveling in his “BMW X5” vehicle when a white van ambushed him and two people shot him with a Kalashnikov from a “Mercedes Benz” vehicle. The former police officer consequently lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into the wall of a car wash.
The assailants then approached Malko's vehicle to shoot the former officer in the head, leaving him dead on the spot. A few hours after the mafia execution, a Kalashnikov-type weapon was found in a burned-out car in Ferraj, suspected to belong to the perpetrators./ Pamphlet
