A mobile device was seized from Sokol Mjacaj about 3 months ago during the checks carried out in Peqin prison.
The same cell phone is expected to undergo a thorough examination to trace its calls to people with criminal records outside of prison cells. Investigators hope that there they can find materials and conversations, which will give direction in the investigation.
In an effort to find out more, 2 inspections were carried out at the homes of Sokol Mjacaj and his brother in Dukagjin. But all the police found was misery and abject poverty. The investigators also interrogated the other 12 persons arrested for abuse of office, among them the prison director Kamber Hoxha and other officials. They have only explained the role of their position at work, without giving further explanations.
After Sokol Mjacaj committed the murder and started threatening others that he would kill them, the moment when he asked the director of the prison to negotiate, sources from the investigative group indicate that some of the prisoners tried to neutralize him. After surrendering through life insurance negotiations, it turned out that there were no more bullets in his pistol, and therefore the pressure and threats were with an empty pistol.
