Farewell, architect of the culture of elegance!

Giorgio Armani, the designer who liberated the suit, created an independent fashion empire and turned elegance into universal culture...

Giorgio Armani died on September 4, 2025 in Milan, at the age of 91. He was the designer who changed the rules of fashion, transforming elegance into a universal language. From a boy born in Piacenza in 1934, who began and interrupted his medical studies, to the founding of his company in 1975, Armani remained inseparable from his passion for clothes and the way they expressed human identity. He stripped the suit of its traditional rigidity and gave it a loose shape, neutral colors and functionality. Women of the 80s found in him the uniform of success and Hollywood men made his brand a symbol of power and seduction. Richard Gere in the film American Gigolo became the first ambassador of this aesthetic revolution.

Armani built not just a brand, but an entire empire: from Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani to Armani Exchange, from perfumes and watches to furniture, hotels and luxury residences. The Armani Hotel Dubai and Armani Hotel Milano expanded the concept of elegance beyond clothing. He invested in sports, becoming a sponsor of the Italian national football team and owner of the Olimpia Milano basketball club. His fortune, estimated at over $6 billion, was a testament to his ability to be both an artist and a businessman.

Faced with the temptation of giants like LVMH or Kering, Armani never sold. He kept the company independent, maintaining creative and financial control until the end. This was a choice that distinguished him from any other: not to become part of a luxury cartel, but to preserve his originality. To this end, he also created the Armani Fund, to ensure the continuity of the company after his death and to avoid family divisions or the sale of the brand.

Even as he reached his peak, Armani remained simple in philosophy. In his last interview, a few days before his separation, he admitted that his only regret was the little time he devoted to friends and family. Otherwise, he lived as he worked: with iron discipline, tireless dedication and the conviction that elegance is not luxury, but culture.

With his passing, the world loses a unique designer and entrepreneur. He left behind not just clothes, but an entire way of thinking about the body, image and life. Giorgio Armani remains the architect of the culture of elegance, who gave the 20th and early 21st centuries an eternal legacy./ Pamphlet
