"Free Palestine", Eurovision audience disrupts Israel's

During the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest, held at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, the performance of Israel's representative, Yuval Raphael, was accompanied by tensions from the audience. Videos shared on TikTok show whistles and chants of "Free Palestine" as the Israeli singer took the stage.

In the official broadcast, these reactions were heard for only a few seconds and in a muted manner, which has prompted speculation about the use of technology that filters out negative audience noise. This has caused numerous reactions on social networks, where users on the X platform (formerly Twitter) accuse the organizers of manipulating the atmosphere and possibly even the votes.

In videos posted on social media, in addition to the booing, Palestinian flags are also seen in public. The tensions were predictable, given the war situation in Gaza and the protests in Basel against Israel's participation in the competition.

Organizers had taken extra security measures, banning political symbols and transparencies in the hall, while Israeli fans were asked not to wear religious symbols for security reasons. Yuval Raphael's performance has been closely watched as one of the most politicized of this edition of Eurovision.
