
26 political parties have applied to the Central Election Commission to register in the May 11 process, while the deadline for submitting documentation ends tomorrow.
The deadline for submitting applications ends on February 25. The deadline for submitting applications for registration of coalitions is March 7. The deadline for submitting multi-name candidate lists ends on March 12.
After reviewing the requests and completing all complaints, the production of ballots will begin on March 25. In addition to the 3 major parties, the DP, the SP and the Freedom Party, 23 other small parties have also registered, including the allies with whom the Democratic Party will enter into a coalition, as well as new parties that will prove themselves in these elections with the ambition of representation in parliament, such as Agron Shehaj's "Mundësia", "Lëvizja Bëhet" or Arlind Qorri's "Bashkë".
Meanwhile, Lulzim Basha's party, "Euroatlantic Coalition", or Enkelejd Alibeaj's "Right 1912" have not yet registered for the elections. Parties have until February 25 to register for the May 11 elections, while March 7 is the deadline for coalition registration and March 12 is the deadline for candidates to submit their applications. The diaspora will also vote for the first time in the May 11 elections. So far, over 210,000 Albanians from the diaspora have applied to register for the elections, while around 170,000 applications have been approved.
Meanwhile, the Central Election Commission has prepared three scenarios for where electronic voting and counting could take place in the May 11 elections. The variants have been sent for consultation to political parties and the Regulatory Commission, which will ultimately decide where this process will be experimented. In all three proposals prepared by Ilirjan Celibashi, electronic voting and counting is divided between the municipalities of Tirana, Vora and Durres. The list will have all the candidates with names, both the closed list and the open list. The Tirana district list will have gigantic dimensions because it produces 37 deputies and must have 49 names for each electoral subject. The number of emigrants registering to become part of the May 11 parliamentary elections for the first time continues to grow rapidly.
There are over 210 thousand Albanians from the diaspora who have applied to register for the elections, while about 170 thousand requests have been approved. Nearly 39 thousand others have been rejected due to address, while representatives of the CEC have called the registration figure higher than initial forecasts. Meanwhile, registrations are expected to increase, as emigrants still have 8 days to apply. Requests for registration are from different countries of the world.
The highest number of requests was registered by Italy with 102,255, followed by Greece with 74,609, Germany with 27,808, as well as the USA with 17,788 and Great Britain with 15,284. As for requests by regions, the highest number of applications is for the Tirana region with 51,485, followed by the Fier regions with 34,220 requests, Elbasan with 28,671, Durrës with 27,909, Korçë with 23,642, etc. By gender, the highest percentage of registrants is male, with 154,017 requests, while females are 107,724. The process for registration on the Electronic Voter Platform (PER) began on January 11 and will last until March 4. According to the deadlines set by the CEC, the deadline for registering political parties and initiative committees ends on February 25. Also on February 25, the State Election Commissioner publishes the preliminary list of overseas voters.
