Former Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji has described January 8 as one of the most shameful moments in the history of the Democratic Party, emphasizing that responsibility for that clash lies with both former leader Lulzim Basha and former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Invited to the show "Off the Record", Salianji said that the incident was the result of a deep leadership conflict and not of specific individuals. According to him, the clash does not honor the Democratic Party and its consequences continue to weigh on the opposition today.
" January 8 was a clash between the former chairman and the then chairman of the DP. It is a story that holds both parties responsible, both Mr. Basha and Mr. Berisha ," said Salianji, adding that the images of that day were harmful to the party's image.
He stressed that he himself was not the aggressor in that incident and that his presence at the blue headquarters was related to a meeting called by the majority of the parliamentary group and the heads of the branches. Salianji stated that the situation created was a "political trap", while the fact that the DP headquarters was armored had not been previously announced.
According to him, January 8 remains a "political Chernobyl" for the DP, an event that must be deeply analyzed, accepted as a mistake, and overcome, so that the party can regain trust and moral superiority in the face of the government.
