The Turkish news agency "Anadolu Agency" has echoed Rama's statement yesterday about his friend Erdogan in the interview for the Greek newspaper Ekathemerini.
The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, has declared that they have a strategic partnership agreement with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and according to Prime Minister Rama, the Turkish president is not anti-Greek, writes Anadolu.
Prime Minister Rama has given an interview to a Greek media, focusing on the issue of the elected mayor of the Municipality of Himara, Alfred Beleri, who is in custody and which has caused reactions in Albania and Greece, meanwhile, he was also asked about issues of others.
"We have a strategic partnership agreement with President Erdoğan, but I don't think we should choose between President Erdoğan or Kyriakos Mitsotakis (Prime Minister of Greece), between Greece and Turkey. We love both. The fact that you don't like each other very much the other one shouldn't be a problem for us to please both of you, I think," said Rama.
Referring to the agreement on maritime zones between Albania and Greece annulled in 2010 by the Constitutional Court of Albania, Rama added that "President Erdoğan never, never, I am telling you this and it is my word against conspiracy theories, he has not asked me, He didn't even ask me what's going on with this. Never. Never! He (President Erdoğan) doesn't need Albania to fight his battles."
Rama emphasized that President Erdoğan is not anti-Greek. "President Erdoğan is the one, who you know very well, I believe, who had the courage when he was not yet who he is today, but was only prime minister, to put an agreement on Cyprus on the table, you remember, which was something quite dangerous for his career in Ankara and he did it", said Rama.
"Then during the serious crisis that Greece went through, (President Erdoğan) I did not see him take the opportunity to make it worse, because if he wanted to destroy Greece or if he intends to destroy Greece, he would have used that moment to make (the crisis) more painful, using refugees and so on. He did not. Indeed, I have never seen in him (President Erdoğan) a man who harbors bad feelings towards Greece and the Greek people. Of course, he he has his opinion regarding the situation between you, the issue of the sea, but I won't get into that, because it's not up to me", Rama emphasized.
Speaking about Beleri and the reactions from Greek officials on this issue, Rama said that "I do not agree that a foreign country, a foreign government makes deep comments about the actions of the justice system of another country, even being countries quite friendly. In my opinion, this is not European".
We remind you that on May 12, the Albanian Police arrested the candidate of several opposition parties for mayor of Himara, in Vlora District, Alfred Beleri, together with another person, accused of the criminal offense of "active corruption in elections". The arrest of Beler, who is known as a member of the Greek minority in Albania, has caused reactions from political parties and officials of various institutions in Albania and Greece.
