The official presentation of the EU4Municipalities II program, the European Union initiative that aims to strengthen local government and support Albania's EU integration process, has begun. Prime Minister Edi Rama was also present at the event, who stressed the importance of increasing the capacities of municipalities and adapting them to European standards. The program foresees concrete investments at the local level, modernization of services and support for local administration.
"It does not simply embody financial support but constitutes a strategic EU investment to promote the growth of municipal capacities in the horizon of Albania's EU membership. Municipalities are our most acute problem of this time if we do not focus today on addressing it. The EU and membership in the European family are a blessing for Albania and a challenge at the local level, as the consolidation of the local government level is an inseparable and inalienable part of the functioning and well-functioning of relations between the EU and a member country," said Rama.
The European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, focused on the impact that the program is expected to have at the local level, emphasizing the importance of municipalities in the European integration process.
"This program brings tangible benefits at the local level because policies are transformed into real improvements. It is no secret that 70% of EU directives and regulations will be implemented in municipalities. That is why municipalities are so important. Your role and our partnership is very important. Albania's European journey must be embraced and experienced in every municipality in Albania. The program aims for local government to not be a mere observer in the process, but active in the European future," said the ambassador.
