Blendi Klos's statement was not a political gaffe, but a coded signal to internationals, SPAK and the criminal underground, at a time when Edi Rama is negotiating the manner of his departure and guarantees for his future...
Blendi Klos' statement on the podcast with Nikollë Lesi, under normal circumstances, would cost him politically. Because no one in the majority is authorized to speak about Edi Rama's political future, as long as Rama himself has not expressed himself.
Under normal conditions, Klos's statement, or that of any other majority politician, should have been general, without entering into specific comments about the prime minister's next term.
But it seems that Edi Rama's announcement of his intention to run for another term, after his fourth, had the correct orientation of the "big boss".
However, what is striking is that the logic of this statement is not simply related to concretizing Rama in power. He could have done this himself, as is his custom, on another occasion and with more solemnity, to create a greater public effect.
It is likely that Klos's statement had a smokescreen function. More than for the public, it seems like a message to the right addressees: the Europeans, especially Germany, the West as a whole and, in this way, also SPAK, to stop or mitigate the investigations against people close to Rama.
The message is also addressed to the criminal underground, which has begun to seek points of agreement with specific politicians, both within the majority and within the opposition.
A short while ago, Flamur Noka publicly admitted that criminal groups have started sending messages to the opposition to find meeting points. This is because the receptors of the criminal underground are very sensitive. They quickly read political movements, especially before the upcoming local elections.
Edi Rama, according to rumors circulating in political and diplomatic circles, has been asked by internationals to vacate the political scene, either for rotation or for internal political refreshing of the party.
But the problem is that, as in the case of Sali Berisha in 2013 and then Ilir Meta, the Americans and Europeans refuse to make agreements on criminal immunity.
It is precisely this great fear that pushes Rama to make a graver mistake, holding the country hostage and perhaps seeking another presidential mandate after 2027.
In line with Blendi Klos's smoky statement, rumors have circulated in Tirana's diplomatic circles about a possible plan to amend the Constitution, with the aim of increasing the powers of the President of the Republic and then having him elected by the people.
Such a plan, if implemented to solidify Edi Rama's personal power, would immediately blow up his political position and cause an institutional hurricane.
Rama knows this well. That is why he has so far blocked attempts to change the Criminal Procedure Code, the Criminal Code, or the powers of the judiciary.
Even his statement at the World Law Congress had a clear address: SPAK prosecutors and GJKKO judges. When he said that he was the only guarantee that the independence of the judiciary would not be affected and that there would be no step to worsen the situation, Rama was sending a coded message.
In all likelihood, Rama is negotiating to extend the mandate of SPAK prosecutors. This is a request that has been made specifically to him by the US and the European Union countries. But for this, the majority leader is seeking guarantees, which so far no one is giving him.
Meanwhile, it seems that they haven't taken Blendi Klos's inflammatory statement seriously either.
