Today, the general secretary of the Ministry of Health, Joana Duro, was arrested.
Duro is accused of corruption.
Her arrest was announced earlier by Prime Minister Edi Rama during the thanksgiving meeting in Tirana, when he said that "a ministry secretary was arrested for bribery".
"A few hours ago I heard about a situation that really embarrasses you. A General Secretary who was caught red-handed taking money. How can this happen? Of course, the side of, so to speak, the pleasant side of this coin is that a person is caught who is unworthy to stay in a state office and I wish that there are as many as possible but I can't wish that the more such people do such things because it is really something serious. Lack of sense of patriotism, lack of sense of duty, lack of sense of ethics to the point that in an important duty to stoop to this kind of level is truly appalling.
Of course, here we have opened this Pandora's box ourselves, we have opened it ourselves precisely because we have not accepted to take on the responsibility of governing this country while keeping our foot on the lid of that box to continue the legacy of I don't know how many centuries where the powerful, the powerful or the supported and protected of this country have never, never been summoned by justice. We have done this.
If I could go back 100 times, I would do the same thing 100 times because in the end this is the reason why a person undertakes to do this work that I do or that many here do because some of them are volunteers, in the sense that they are engaged with The Socialist Party, but they do not have tasks at these levels and they are not at the decision-making levels where it is decided what path they should take, they must continue on a circuitous path and consume power by pretending that we do not understand or by making barricades that who is ours can to do whatever he wants with the law and with the common property and it is not affected or should we follow another path? We have chosen this other path and on this path there is no going back and there is no compromise with anyone", said Rama.
