We will enter the Assembly, but we will not recognize the elections. This was the phrase that the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, said in his speech at the start of the meeting of the Presidency of this party, but also after it, when he announced what the highest decision-making forum had decided.
Berisha even claimed that the decision to enter the Assembly was not opposed by any member of the Presidency, which seems to be an excuse even in the face of any voice that hoped that more extreme decisions could be made.
In fact, the decisions taken by the DP Presidency do not constitute any new development. They are the same movements that this party has produced at least since 2013 when it came into opposition, with the exception of the extreme case of burning mandates in 2019, a time when the DP was led de jure by Lulzim Basha, while Sali Berisha remained behind the scenes.
The DP has not recognized the results of the elections every time it has lost the processes, which is the same thing that is being articulated today. But in the end, the deputies entered the Assembly, received their mandates, and then their parliamentary behavior has been dependent on the political situations.
This will happen in this legislature as well, the opposition will be in the Assembly and its behavior will depend on political tensions. It could even lead to a conditional relationship between its MPs and the Assembly, but they will face the same Prime Minister, who does not feel bad when the opposition is in the hall or when they stay outside.
Berisha spoke about investigative commissions, something that the DP has had in its tradition since at least 2003, presenting and establishing such commissions for certain issues, even though in the last legislature there were clashes with the majority, which sometimes approved and sometimes rejected its requests.
So, in relation to the Assembly, what the DP Presidency decided on September 10 is the same strategy as what we have seen in these 12 years.
He also spoke about protests, even though historically the DP is the party that has organized the most of them in the 35 years of pluralism. And on this point he was careful to claim that the protests were requested by Ervin Salianji, the former MP who in July was released from prison after 1 year in prison, a proposal that was supported not only by Berisha, but also by the Presidency.
The most important point in today's meeting of the DP Presidency, beyond what Berisha had decided upon entering the Assembly, was to be the election of the Chairman of the Parliamentary Group.

But this was not decided either, and even Berisha avoided it.
And it seems that what was expected is happening, Berisha and the DP are 'observing' the developments in the majority camp from afar. They are waiting to see who will be the names that Edi Rama will appoint to lead the Albanian Parliament and the Socialist Parliamentary Group. And it is not surprising that on Thursday afternoon, or Friday morning, Berisha will formalize the name that will lead the DP Group, even if temporarily.
It is rumored that Gazment Bardhi will continue to hold the same position, that is, Chairman of the Parliamentary Group, at least until the spring of 2026, while the only innovation may be the name that the DP will propose for Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
Although it may never be his turn to chair a plenary session, the one who will be proposed as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly will also be the highest official in state protocol who will represent the opposition. /Pamphlet/
