Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha declared after the DP Presidency meeting that he is ready to face a vote of confidence from the membership for the position of leader of this political force.
"Absolutely, I accept it, how can I not accept it. It would be foolish to admit that I do not accept the vote of confidence. The Statute speaks of elections, not of a farce. It was a vote of confidence, because it was a farce," declared Berisha, answering the question regarding the vote of confidence.
Regarding the analysis of the defeat, Berisha said that there will definitely be one. Although there is no fixed date for when the analysis will begin, the democratic leader expressed confidence that it will be done.
"There is no fixed date, because there are some ongoing problems. But, no one should think that the party will not undergo an analysis in the best interest of Albanians," he said.
Have you decided when the internal analysis will start?
Berisha: The Democratic Party is a party of speech, of free debate, of free thought. So, it will be an analysis in which absolutely all members, all supporters, are invited to give their opinions. There is no fixed date, because there are some ongoing problems. But, no one should think that the party will not be subjected to an analysis in the best interest of Albanians.
Did anyone oppose your proposal at the leadership meeting to enter parliament?
Berisha: No, there weren't. There were suggestions about the format, but to my knowledge, no. No one opposed the idea of entering parliament.
Will the party leader be the same, the General Secretary, the head of the Parliamentary Group, and the rest?
Berisha: The Democratic Party has all the powers to make any decision it deems fair and reasonable.
Will there be an election?
Berisha: As for what the party will have, it has a statute and it will be in accordance with its statute. But the analysis will be done, that is certain.
Along with the analysis of these elections, will you also have an analysis of the 2023 local elections?
Berisha: No, in a way it... you're right that it wasn't done, but it had another reason, because the party leader was placed under arrest for 333 days, and a series of processes became impossible. But, the black book was prepared that tarnished the elections. And, on the basis of that black book, on the basis of those facts, 4 international resolutions were voted, and the 5th was after the elections, in which Edi Rama was described as a populist dictator who carries out electoral farces, on the basis of that black book. So, it wasn't done within the party, but it did a job that served him, I say.
Mr. Berisha, even after the 2023 elections, which you have described as an electoral massacre, you entered into a vote of confidence. Meanwhile, after the 2025 elections, you do not accept it. Why this standard?
Berisha: Who told you that he accepts? Sali Berisha? Absolutely, as many times as the members want. Absolutely, I accept it, how can I not accept it. It would be foolish to admit that I do not accept the vote of confidence. The statute speaks of elections, not of a farce. It was a vote of confidence, because it was a farce. Wait a minute, you can see the difference. A farce is a farce, a vote is a vote. If you blame the victim for the criminal, then this is morally problematic. It will never happen that this party holds the victim responsible for the criminal. And here, the criminal of the elections is Edi Rama, and number 2, Altin Troplini. But this absolutely never excludes the procedure and the right of the party membership to freely express themselves about all the leaders they need, including the leader of the DP at the right time.
