Enkelejd Alibeaj, former MP and former leader of the Democratic Party, one of Sali Berisha's harshest critics, has commented on the process of reconfirming the former prime minister as head of the Democratic Party, which will take place on Saturday (May 23).
In what was supposed to be a race for the leader of the DP, due to the lack of other candidates besides Berisha, the entire process has turned into a referendum that the membership is expected to express support for the current leader of the DP.
From the News24 studio, Alibeaj stated that what is happening in the DP no longer represents a normal political party, but a structure completely controlled by Berisha.
According to him, the May 23 process does not constitute an important political event, but is another indicator of the DP's departure from democratic functioning.
" It doesn't take much experience to understand that what happens in a political party, which is Berisha's party, which has no connection to the DP, is his private party where he leads, orders, changes the internal rules of their statute.
I don't think what's happening is a big event. It marks one more stone, one more brick on a trajectory of a sect increasingly far from the contours of a party that has moved away from the existence of a political party that aims to govern and gather supporters. This is the political mission. What happens tomorrow or what has happened so far is that they no longer worry about increasing popular support.
"A person is running who is not allowed to run by the Statute, Article 46 of the Re-establishment Statute prohibits him. He is breaking the rules ," said Alibeaj.
