The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has congratulated former President Ilir Meta on his 57th birthday, emphasizing that he is facing a difficult situation in detention facilities.
"I send a heartfelt greeting to the political prisoners and I wish a happy birthday to former President Meta, who is fighting an extraordinary battle even from his prison cell," Berisha said.
In his statement to the media, Berisha also raised accusations about the way Meta was treated, condemning, according to him, acts of intimidation.
"I condemn the shameful acts of intimidation that they commit... all of which are on the orders of Edi Rama," said the leading democrat.
He further added specific accusations regarding this issue, stating that he "brings criminals to puncture water bottles to leave him without water," linking this to structures close to the government.
