"410 million euros of smuggled oil go to Rama's family", Berisha:

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has denounced the increase in fuel prices in Albania, describing it as a heavy burden on citizens and households. In a statement to the media, he stated that “oil in Albania has become an instrument of tyranny against Albanians.”

According to Berisha, high fuel prices are directly affecting the livelihoods of citizens. He emphasized that this situation is bringing "stratospheric prices, a reduction in the food ration on the table and the departure of Albanians from the country."

The DP leader noted that, despite the country's significant oil resources, such as the Patos field, and the presence of import ports, the price of oil remains higher than in neighboring countries. "The price of oil in Albania exceeds that in Kosovo and Macedonia by 60 percent," he said.

Berisha identified two main factors for this situation. "First, the fiscal burden. In developed countries it is 40-45 percent, while incomes are several times higher than in Albania. This is a terrible penalty on Albanians," he said.

As a second factor, he mentioned fuel smuggling, stating that: "Not a single liter of oil enters Albania by boat. 350 thousand tons of contraband enter the ports controlled by the government. 350 thousand tons of contraband oil are equal to 410 million euros that go to the family of the chief controller, which is Rama," and added that this, according to him, translates into huge financial losses.
