While Basha's candidacy was reconfirmed yesterday for the elections of the new president, former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has announced a cooperation with the general secretary of DP, Gazment Bardhi.
Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has stated that his and Gazment Bardhi's positions regarding the opposition candidate for Prime Minister are close to each other.
In the weekly conference with journalists, the former prime minister was asked about the attitudes of Bardhi, who has stated that he will not join Berisha if he will be a candidate for prime minister in the 2025 elections, while Berisha said that if PD emerges victorious, the candidate for prime minister will emerge from the primaries of the Democrats.
Question: Bardhi stated that he will not join your group with Sali Berisha, a candidate for prime minister in 2025. Will you be a candidate in 2025 or can you field another candidate?
"We are not far from Gazi in this case. I have stated that even after PD wins the elections, there will be primaries for prime minister. If Albanians massively vote for Sali Berisha as prime minister, every democrat will be subject to the vote. But this obligation of there is Sali Berisha, there will be a vote for prime minister. There will be a vote for the prime minister. No one can oppose the massive vote for me, let's take it," said Berisha.
We remind you that the Presidency of the Democratic Party decided to hold the elections for the chairman on July 29. Gazment Bardhi, who in addition to the position of the head of the Parliamentary Group also holds that of the General Secretary, has warned that any decision-making in violation of the statute invalidates the process. According to Bardhi, the decision of the majority in the Presidency should go to the highest leadership forums of this political force.
"The National Council of DP will have to meet. I have asked within the Presidency, I received an informal answer that will not be collected. If it does not happen, then we will not have an election for the party chairman on July 29. I don't understand, whose interest is it to introduce, once again, a legal impasse in the DP. It is precisely this stalemate that has dragged DP throughout this period", said Bardhi.
Furthermore, Bardhi stated that he has no compunction to sit down with anyone for talks on behalf of the union of the Democrats, even if it is Sali Berisha, but he does not see the future of the Democratic Party as connected to specific individuals, accustomed to the idea that, without strengthening the base, in the 2025 elections, PD will go towards annihilation as a political force.
"The best interest of the democrats is for the PD to enter into a real process of reorganization, with the members of the PD that the path they are following, every segment within the PD, is the wrong path," continued Bardhi .
He is ready to sacrifice any leadership position, as he invites his colleagues in the two groups to rise above personal interests in the name of the union.
"I have no ambition, I am even ready to give up any position, if only to make way for a strengthening of the Democratic Party", he declared.
