The former prime minister, Sali Berisha, has today denounced the members of the Constitutional Court who overturned a request of the opposition to cancel the government's agreement on the construction of the Port of Durrës.
At the weekly press conference, Berisha stated that the opposition will send this issue to Strasbourg. Furthermore, the former prime minister stated that the Constitutional Court has turned into an annex of the Socialist Party.
"Now you have been informed, the Constitutional Court and it has turned into an annex of the SP. It has taken the most unconstitutional decisions and has terribly kicked the public interest. There should be an investigation if those judges have taken any apartments in Dubai City Edi Rama, with the decision they made.
Adopting an agreement which flagrantly violates the stabilization agreement of the association. I stop here, because in our constitution and not only in it, the international agreement prevails over the country's law, prevails over the country's law.
To use the clause of the Constitution which says that the agreement is examined before it is voted on in the parliament, is a speculation. Because there is another article in the Constitution that extends the deadline for reviewing the law to two years and the agreement becomes law, the agreement says law, even more so when this agreement is in open contradiction with the stabilization-association agreement and the Constitutional Court is obliged to give priority to the stabilization-association agreement before the Durrës agreement.
The third, as you know, is a non-compete agreement, which in itself is in violation of the Constitution, which guarantees in its articles and spirit open and free competition, this was done without competition. And these are not motives for the Constitutional court, but just like they have taken an apartment in Dubai City, showing an unprecedented corruption, illegal attitude. We will take the Durrës port agreement to Strasbourg," said Berisha
