The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, congratulated teachers and pedagogues on the occasion of March 7, appreciating their role in the education and formation of new generations.
In a meeting with teachers and educators, he emphasized that education and upbringing are the foundation of the development of a society, while he described the teacher as an important missionary for the future of the country.
"Heartiest congratulations to all teachers, pedagogues... your mission is of decisive importance more than any other mission for the future of a nation," Berisha said.
However, according to him, the education system in Albania is facing a deep crisis. He stated that the country is facing an "educational turnaround", which he compared to other infrastructural problems in the country.
"We come to this day in conditions of an extraordinary crisis in the education system, of a much greater turnaround than what we see in the roads and bridges built by this government," said the leading democrat.
Berisha accused the government of wrong policies in education and described the blocking of doctorates at universities as one of the most serious acts.
"There can be no more anti-national act than blocking doctoral degrees in universities with an order," he declared, also citing examples from his academic experience from previous years.
The opposition leader also criticized the leadership of the Academy of Sciences, claiming that it has become an object of political bargaining.
"An unimaginable spirit arose where the academy was traded between Tom Doshi and Skënder Gjinushi," Berisha said.
He also focused on Albania's poor results in the international PISA test, emphasizing that the country has suffered a significant drop in rankings.
"There is no greater decline for this nation than the drop it suffered in PISA, 69 positions," said Berisha, adding that this should serve as a basis for future changes.
In conclusion, Berisha emphasized that the Democratic Party considers education a top priority and promised that investments in this sector will be at the center of its policies in the future.
