The Assembly Bureau met this Tuesday morning to review the Democratic Party's appeal regarding the exclusion of six MPs for 30 days from participation in plenary sessions.
The meeting began with debates, where Democratic MP Belind Këlliçi stated that Republican Guard employees had "drag opposition MPs" during the December 18 parliamentary session.
During his speech, Këlliç asked the majority representatives to justify the decision to exclude them.
"We want Albanian citizens to be aware of the ridiculous and entirely political reasons for this decision to expel opposition MPs," he said.
Këlliçi added: "We cannot move forward with the agenda without a justification from your side. If you agree with your decision-making, why don't you be transparent with Albanian citizens?"
While Albana Vokshi stated that if there is no justification, then "What is the point of this meeting!"
The Democrats had requested from Speaker Niko Peleshi that today's meeting be held with open doors, however this request was rejected and the meeting is being held behind closed doors.
"Dear Mr. Speaker, In my capacity as a member of the Bureau of the Assembly, in the context of transparency and the interest of public opinion, as well as the sensitivity of the issues for discussion, I request that today's meeting of the Bureau of the Assembly, at 11:00, be held with the presence of the media and journalists.", reads the letter addressed to Pelesh, by MP Belind Këlliçi, one of the MPs expelled by the Ethics Secretariat.
Let us recall that Këlliçi and five other MPs Fidel Kreta, Albana Vokshi, Klevis Balliu, Flamur Noka and Elda Hoti, were expelled from the Ethics Commission on December 23 of last year, at the request of the Socialist Party after tensions in the Parliament hall, where flares were also thrown.
Their exclusion has been in effect since January 19, when the first plenary session of this year was held, and will last until December 23, unless otherwise decided today.
