Analyst Frrok Çupi stated that the European Parliament delegation has given a clear message to Albanian politics, that support for justice must continue without any wavering.
According to Çupi, the representatives of the European Parliament underlined that justice must be developed independently, while simultaneously demanding accountability and transparency in its activities. He emphasized that the message was direct both to the majority, to fulfill its obligations, and to the opposition, which was asked to play its constructive role and be on the side of reforms.
In his analysis, Çupi also focused on the avoidance of a meeting between the European delegation and former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, describing this as a clear political signal. He mentioned MEP McAllister's refusal to meet Berisha, interpreting it as confirmation that in the eyes of the EU he is not considered a legitimate representative of the opposition.
"The delegation said that the support, backing and work of justice should continue, as should the accountability of justice. The EP said very clearly that justice should be developed independently, just as it demands accountability and gives accountability. The essence was that the majority should carry out its duties, while it insisted on the opposition playing its role, being on the side of reforms. It was also very ironic that Berisha was avoided.
McAllister refused to meet Berisha. This was a confirmation that even in the EU, Berisha is 'non grata'. The EU does not recognize Berisha as the leader of either Albania or the opposition. For them, Berisha is not the leader of the DP. What McAllister said about the violence in the protests is an alarm. Berisha's latest act is violence, in a democratic country. This means that Europe is ready to act if this becomes a black mark on Albania's progress forward. If they continue with violence and murder, it will undoubtedly be a criminal organization", Çupi said on "Tirana Live".
