The former leader of the DP, Lulzim Basha, held a meeting today with the democrats of branch 4 in Tirana, where he spoke about his return to the head of the party and its reformation.
During his speech he said that he will eventually make the party's separation with the past, implying the final separation from Berisha and the re-establishment group.
He added that the DP has been delayed in the renewal process, but he promised that with his arrival at the head of the party, it will become a model party with a pro-Western orientation.
" The Democratic Party is the first opposition party, the party of Albanian hope, and without any doubt it should return to the place that history and the Albanians have given it, certainly in a strong alliance with the USA, Great Britain and the EU.
We will make a clear and definitive separation of the future from the past. For us there are no accomplices and co-sufferers!
We are very late in the process of renewing the party. And for this I accept my responsibility. We will put the energy of youth forward and the maturity and wisdom of experience to back it up.
We separate ourselves from the mob mentality, where blame is made collective to escape responsibility. Those who break the law and abuse power are simply guilty. The vetting of politicians is the most important contribution that anyone who considers themselves clean can make for an uncorrupted and incriminated politics, which puts an end to the politics of mudslinging.
This confrontation is not easy at all. They have spent 32 years in power and are together to maintain the status quo. But, as history proves, when they seem the strongest, their empire collapses the fastest.
With your trust, I will be the chairman of the Democratic Party and the politician who provides a model different from the conflicting one, with which the citizens were oversaturated during the transition. I will be the politician who does not turn the personal problems of power into the party's problem, let alone Albania's.
I have given the model even during this time, although many people did not agree, I did not respond to mud with mud. After all, this is the model that Albanians reject and from which our opponent benefits.
This is the new mission of our Party. A modern party that reflects the time, society and its needs, that respects contributions, guarantees careers, strengthens meritocracy, open to young people and new thoughts. This is the model we should give to the Albanians, as an example of the change we are undertaking for Albania ", said Basha.
