Endrit Shabani: When I was a high school senior, I didn't think I would

Endrit Shabani is a well-known figure in Albanian politics. He is the leader of the "Thurja Initiative", in the May 11 elections he ran for MP on the side of Adriatik Lapaj's "Albania Becomes" coalition.

It would seem ridiculous if we imagined Endrit Shabani as a person who engaged in illegal activities, for example drug trafficking! But, this was Endrit Shabani's "dream" as a high school senior.

In an open and inspiring story on the Rudina show, Endrit Shabani took us back in time, telling how the 'Harry Fultz' school changed his life and opened his horizons in an environment where hope for the future seemed distant.

Coming from the 'Ali Demi' neighborhood, where many of his friends never imagined university, Endriti told us how the atmosphere and expectations at 'Harry Fultz' were a true transformation.

" Harry Fultz School had one good thing, because it was a school with an entrance exam, there was a filtering that some other schools didn't have, and for me it was life-transforming. I came from the 'Ali Demi' neighborhood, a very large part of my friends didn't think they would go to university. At one point, I thought I would deal with drugs when I grew up, because that was the model.

We were 11 or 12 years old and the ones we saw as successful were the ones who came in cars and did drugs and we didn't think we would go to college. When I went to 'Harry Fultz' in my freshman year the teacher said 'I believe you all will go to college', I thought it wasn't with me, it was with the others. So it wasn't the expectation.

"Despite me complaining about 'Harry Fultz's' rebelliousness, the school structure and the society there, everyone was a student who had a filter, they took school seriously, the books were in English, they were very large. There were times when they couldn't find high school books and we had university books ," Endrit Shabani confessed.
