Prime Minister Edi Rama, following the reaction of the Supreme Court and the Supreme People's Court, has stated that he is not exerting pressure or coercion on prosecutors and special judges following the arrest of Erion Veliaj.
Rama stated that he had not read the file, while he requested a single piece of evidence implicating the mayor of Tirana.
He further emphasized that he made a more legitimate request for democratic standards, not to exert pressure on prosecutors and judges.
"Our position does not change, I have been very clear, in that entire file there is not a single paragraph because I have not read the file, but I asked "give me a paragraph if there is where there is evidence that is within a file that shows that the mayor has illegally benefited from anything."
The question is "Do you think it's normal for a deputy or former deputy, but a mayor, to be taken from office and sent to prison, even though the prosecution has doubts? It seems normal to you."
How can it be called an attack on SPAK and pressure on the Court when I raise such a principled problem that has to do with the most legitimate request in the world for a Prime Minister and moreover me as the leader of the force that gave life to SPAK, in the face of all possible hostility, putting the existence of that government on the table, saying either vote for the reform or overthrow the government because I am not interested in the government, and I should not make such a request for democratic standards, a more legitimate request for democratic standards, not to exert pressure on prosecutors and judges. When they say tyrannically "we met so many times" what are those elected by the people to run the country or the city "they are cannon fodder" For a power that feels so powerful as to terminate the contract of a mayor without yet providing all the evidence to do this in court. Who bears responsibility? Because the mayor is not a defendant", said Rama.
