Who runs and who doesn't in the 2025 elections depends on the will of SPAK...
After about 10 days, politics will return to normality and the main focus is expected to be the 2025 elections. As we are usually used to, the campaign starts a long time ago and starting from September, it is expected that Prime Minister Rama will start the famous tour of meetings from one city to another. Meta and DP deputies are expected to do the same, as we will most likely continue to hear Berisha speak from the balcony.
But unlike the previous elections, this time, in addition to the party leaders, the Special Prosecutor's Office will have a decisive role in the composition of the new Parliament. Although the names of the candidates will again be in the hands of the mayors, this time many candidacies will depend on the will of the special prosecutors.
The first is Ilir Meta. As much as he has started the meetings and talks about a convincing victory in Tirana, Ilir Meta is not at all sure of running in the upcoming elections. Or rather he may run, but he may have the fate of Freddie Beller. SPAK has in hand many files against him and for months there have been rumors that he will be arrested. So if SPAK acts and handcuffs them before the elections, then Meta will forget the Parliament. Meanwhile, if SPAK does not act, then many questions and hints must be raised that this body has been bought or scared by the former president, who only threatens and anathemas.
The fate of Sali Berisha will also be in the hands of SPAK. The prosecution has extended the investigations several times and has not yet sent the file to the court. As long as the trial has not started, Berisha will continue to be under house arrest. His candidacy will depend on the actions of SPAK and Berisha has brought Argita to the stage for a reason.
A big storm is expected from the ranks of the SP. We have several names on file with SPAK, who are expected not to run in the upcoming elections. The signals are that more than half of the current SP MPs may no longer be in the new Parliament. Rama will use the elections to try to clean the image of the government and the party. Like Vullnet Sinaj, there will be many names in the coming days who will declare that they do not want to run.
Even in the ranks of the PD there are many MPs who may not run because of SPAK. There are many names that are being investigated, a part for affairs when they held positions as mayors and a part for hiding wealth.
