The Minister of Finance and Economy, Ervin Mete, held a conference today where he took stock of 2023 and also spoke about the expectations of 2024.
With year-round tourism, the economy is entering a new phase with more than 10 million foreign visitors and more income of around 3.2 billion euros.
The initiated reform of salary increases in the public sector will continue significantly even during 2024.
"In the first months of the year, the decisions specifying the increase for all categories will be finalized. In the middle of 2024, there will be a significant increase in salaries, with the aim that within this year we will reach the average salary of 900 euros in the public sector ", writes Mete.
From January 1, the new law "On income tax" has started to be implemented. This law has already been completed with all the necessary by-laws that enable its full implementation.
Flaws: In the framework of the "Income Tax" law, a new guideline has been drawn up, related to the taxation of the transfer of ownership, where we found it appropriate to establish a new rule. In all areas, the reference sales price will be applied, in relation to the age of the building, where for each year of age, the price will be reduced by 1%. During this year, there will be a review of reference prices in coastal areas as well.
The minister also focused on the strengthening of the Lek and said that this shows the strengthening of the economy, while he explained that this strengthening was caused by a number of factors.
Defects: The strengthening of the lek is a reflection of the strengthening of the economy. If we only have 3.2 billion euros inflows from tourism in 9 months, of course this affects the strengthening of the local currency, just as there are a number of other flows that are expressed in the strengthening of the local currency. We are an open economy, sensitive to the developments of our trading partners, to the geopolitical developments that have had an effect on that sector.
He also focused on the law on the mandatory insurance of housing against earthquakes and said that a draft will be ready in the first quarter of this year.
Flaws: The law is under discussion, we have an analysis by the World Bank regarding the premium, whether it will be basic unfiiric for the whole country or divided into 2 or 4 areas of the country, which reflect on the one hand the seismic risk and on the other hand the value of housing.
