The member of the Democratic Party in the Fushë-Krujë branch, Besmir Haliti, has announced his departure from political activity within this force, accompanying the decision with strong accusations against the electoral process for the leadership of the Krujë branch.
"As of today, I declare that I am no longer a member of the Democratic Party of Albania," Haliti said, describing the race for branch chairman as "a slanderous, anti-democratic farce."
According to him, the process is "prepared and directed" by senior party leaders and interest groups, while claiming that a certain candidate was favored.
Haliti directly accuses the Secretary General, Flamur Noka, of interfering in the process, adding that "the violence and humiliation that Flamur Noka inflicts on members and structures of the DP in Kruja and Fushë-Kruja is unprecedented."
He also claims that candidates with real support have been deliberately excluded from the race, while he describes the candidacy in front of the favored name as "a puppet placed in the race as an ornament."
In his reaction, Haliti criticizes the fact that the party's base is not included in decision-making.
"The grassroots were not consulted nor was their opinion taken into consideration for a single moment," he emphasizes, adding that the process was influenced by "influence and interest groups."
He also states that the merger of the Krujë and Fushë-Krujë branches is a "gross political mistake" and that the current situation has led to division and weakening of the Democratic Party in the area.
Reflecting on his experience, Haliti emphasizes that he had hoped for a change after recent developments in the party, but according to him, "the state of democracy and respect for the law... has deteriorated even further."
Besmir Haliti also emphasizes that he no longer feels represented by the current leadership of the DP.
"My right-wing aspirations... were insulted yesterday and are being severely insulted today ," adding that his commitment will continue outside of this political force.
